Mersea Island Lions (Charity no 1003970), a club within Lions International, the worldwide Community Service organisation, welcomes you to this site, devoted solely to the two athletic races that we organise on an annual basis.
The races have a 20 year history with entries now received from virtually all over the U.K., and have become of great importance in the Essex athletics calendar. They have generated lots of enjoyment and over the last 5 years have more than doubled in entries and the professionalism has increased.
Mersea Island itself is unique in Essex, being situated only 8 miles from Colchester, but entered via a Causeway, which on occasions is covered by the tide ( but never at race times!!), similar to Lindisfarne in the North-East.
It is a special place with a very special feel, pleasant countryside and attractive coastline with excellent rural and sea views.
